Here is a notable case of community and government finding common ground to work in tandem.  It was months ago that Art Basil founders and representatives from the VErestaurant Group sought to extend their participation in Red Dot’s opening night gala with the inclusion of Top Chefs from Brickell Avenue Restaurants to coincide with Art Basel and Art Miami – Dec. 2-6.

In the heart of the Wynwood District satellite art events have popped up like Soho, the early years.  With the glut of traffic has come parking fees that start at an obscene $45.00.

Two ideas dovetailed and everyone attending Art Basil, Red Dot Fair, Art Basel and Art Miami stand to benefit.  Utilizing public transportation during ArtBasel (considered one of the most important art conflags in the world) will go a long way in reducing  traffic congestion and frayed nerves.  With the vast number of attendees arriving in their private Gulfstream’s and Falcon 2000’s  it is ironic that navigating a block on the ground can take longer than their entire flight.

With an estimated 3-4 billion dollars changing hands  among the 65,000 discriminating art aficionados and collectors ease of movement is tantamount to a successful outcome.  Both jet setters and the hoi polli may soon be co-mingling on one of the metro world’s most advanced downtown public transportation systems.

Brickell Restaurants that include Segafredos, Love is Blind , Havana 1957, Dolores but you can Call Me Lolita are presenting again this year at the VIII edition of ArtBasil while actively promoting public transportation.  Many of the Brickell  area business are extending their hours, hosting art exhibits, creating special menu items and providing  deeply discounted valet parking and links to the complimentary Miami Metro Mover.

In addition there is no charge for the breathtaking birds eye views of the City skyline.   Metro Dade’s Transportation plan goes a long way in ameliorating  the loathsome parking problem that has accompanied every Art Basel- Miami  almost since its inception over a decade ago.  By putting our tax dollars to work in a way that everyone benefits – increased restaurant business, extending the geographic reach of Miami Art Week and happier visitors who seek the finest in luxury travel with an authentic twist…assures returning visitors singing the city’s praises.

According to Patrice Gillespie Smith, Community Image Manager Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces and Graham Winick, Film and Event Production Manager Tourism, Cultural and Economic Development states, “We are very excited about Art Week and have been working to provide alternate modes of transportation during the week-long event.
